Adrien Broner vs Blair Cobbs official for June 7, WBC title fight on undercard

Adrien Broner and Blair Cobbs are officially set to meet in a Don King-promoted main event on Friday, June 7, from the Seminole Hard Rock in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The card will also feature Norair Mikaeljan defending his WBC cruiserweight title against Ryan Rozicki, plus more.

Broner and Cobbs, both 34, are two of boxing’s more colorful characters, to put it one way. Broner (35-4-1, 24 KO) made a return last June after being out of the ring since early 2021, and has only fought twice since his 2019 loss to Manny Pacquiao.

A titleholder in multiple divisions, Broner is past his best days but still attracts some attention even on mid-size shows such as this, and Cobbs (16-1-1, 10 KO) should be just the guy to help him catch some headlines and eyeballs.

Cobbs hasn’t fought since beating Maurice Hooker in Aug. 2022, which followed a one-sided loss to Alexis Rocha five months prior.

Mikaeljan (27-2, 12 KO) took the vacant WBC belt last November, stopping Ilunga Junior Makabu in the third round in Miami. He’s won four straight since a debatable loss to Mairis Brieidis in 2018.

Rozicki (20-1, 19 KO) is a solid opponent, a 29-year-old Canadian who doesn’t have much by way of quality wins, but his only loss came against heavyweight Oscar Rivas in a late 2021 “bridgerweight” bout in Montreal.

Also on the card, King favorite Ian Green (18-2, 12 KO) will be in middleweight action, plus heavyweights Cassius Chaney (23-1, 16 KO) and Michael Hunter (22-1-2, 16 KO) will square off, allegedly for an interim WBA title, because the WBA simply needs more heavyweight titles.
